My idea of relaxation always involves a day out at the beach with my family and friends. This experience is often less than pleasant when I place close attention to the debris in the lagoon, mostly chemicals, garbage and sometimes, human waste. The effects of our actions like this as humans on our coastal waters, is profoundly damaging.

I named this drop ‘Revive’ to celebrate the beauty of Lagos, home to over 30 beaches that are constantly threatened by pollution.

By shooting against this backdrop, I want to emphasize the need for us to preserve our beaches, maintain our ocean front by keeping it clean, and overall, strengthen our natural ecosystems. A polluted beach affects the economy, because a beach in poor condition, precludes or limits its recreational and aesthetic use. It also degrades the habitat and livelihood of millions of marine creatures, which ultimately throws a lot of things off balance in nature, therefore weakening our biodiversity in general.

Protecting our biodiversity from plastic, waste, oil and human pollution should be of paramount importance to us all. When we begin to understand that there is a link between protecting our oceans and our everyday lives, we will begin to value our immediate environment.

The colours in this drop - a mix of white, green, brown and different shades of blue, were carefully chosen to remind us of the need to Revive and maintain the balance we need to preserve our precious natural environment, the beaches we love so much and the life within it.

Taztopia is hand dyed with love by a community of women in environment friendly conditions and produced with care by beneficiaries of SHFTrains from 100% organic cotton sourced locally.

Not only does a polluted beach affect the economy because a beach in poor condition, in addition to everything else, precludes or limits its recreational, lucrative and aesthetic use, but

Pollution degrades the habitat and livelihood of millions of marine creatures. Millions of plastic micro-particles and other garbage are ingested by fish and other animals that end up injured, and eventually into our own digestive systems.

The quantity of biodiversity in the ocean is fast depleting due to plastic pollution, waste pollution, oil pollution and so much more.

Cleaning the beach also improves the coastal and ocean ecosystem by making sure that none of the trash kills marine life or is toxic enough to disrupt the marine life cycle.

The colours in this drop - the acid lime green, cedar brown or cerulean blue were carefully chosen for this purpose. To remind us of the need to be more mindful of our environment.

Hand dyed with love, produced with care from 100% organic cotton sourced locally, we tried to ensure our carbon footprints was reduced to the barest minimum.
